Welcome to my blog!

This is my first attempt at a blog and I have to be honest with all of my experience with technology and online learning I have never attempted a blog myself nor been a big blog follower.  So as I explore this idea please provide ideas, feedback, and really anything to help convince me this is a great idea.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of social media for personal use.  As an educator and holding a high level of ethics and professionalism with myself I tend to worry those who would "friend" me on social sites might not hold the same level of professionalism, which could in turn have a negative reflection on myself.  So, until this class I've declined the idea of social networking online.

After reading the following post in my 603 class this week, I realize I have utilized some of these ideas already in my own online classrooms at a K-12 level but never really considered them fitting in the area of social media.  I have also used many of them on a personal level without thinking it fit in this category.  So, maybe this leap isn't too far of a stretch and I need to be more open to new ideas for my own experience with technology to grow.

My experience with social media as an educator has been in a controlled LMS at the K-12 level so with adults I have little to no experience and look forward to expanding my experience by learning from my peers in this class as well as the professors I'll be working with the next few years as I pursue my degree.

Happy blogging and thank you for inspiration and guidance to push me to expand my comfort bubble just a little.

  1. Welcome Rebbeca. Coming from an Open Distance Learning institution which caters for adults I hope we can learn from each other as we move forward.

    1. Thank you! It sounds like we have a lot we can share with each other. I also teach a Adult Basic Education/GED instruction class in the evenings a couple days as week and really enjoy working with adults on their educational journey. What a great opportunity you have with your career.

  2. Rebecca a great blog. I am also an ABE instructor and find it very interesting to work with adults as they work towards completing something that many take for granted. I also found it very interesting in your post as to how you feel about the personal use of social media. I am extremely apprehensive about the use of social media. I was even delayed in starting my blog, because I was resistant and uninformed. Since becoming a little more vigilant in our blogging assignment, I must say that I am intrigued. It's been very interesting reading other blogs and finding out more information about my fellow classmates; without this assignment I probably would not have learned just how much I have in common with many of my classmates.
